Alex Hartzler, M.D.
Alex Hartzler, M.D., M.Ac. is a board certified adult psychiatrist and integrates conventional psychiatric and complementary modalities including medication management, psychodynamic and somatic psychotherapy, mind-body interventions, and mindfulness and self-compassion cultivation. Alex attended medical school at The University of Washington School of Medicine and psychiatry residency at California Pacific Medical Center. Undergraduate studies in psychology were at Barnard College, Columbia University. Alex also earned a Master’s degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine from the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and studied massage therapy and natural therapeutics at the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics prior to traditional medical training.
Warmth, presence, and deep listening are central in Alex’s work as is welcoming each individual’s complex of experiences and sociocultural backgrounds. While treating a range of common conditions including ADHD, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and bipolar disorder, Alex has particular interests in supporting adults motivated to deeply explore and befriend themselves, to cope better and become more resilient, and find more freedom through cultivating emotional-intelligence, self-compassion, and presence. Additionally, Alex enjoys supporting transgender, nonbinary, and other LGBTQIQA people to live more fully and freely.
