the Los Angeles County – U.S.C. Medical Center residency programs in psychiatry and child psychiatry, he is Board Certified in both general and child psychiatry and is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Chisholm was the first and, for many years the only, child psychiatrist to ever have practiced in San Luis Obispo County. In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Chisholm has been active in medical politics (e.g., California Medical Association delegate for many years, past president of San Luis Obispo County Medical Society) and community activities (e.g., youth soccer, land preservation). Married for over 40 years, he is the father of a clinical psychologist and an emergency physician. Over 40 years after graduating from medical school, he still relishes working with patients every day!

Dr. Chisholm sees patients of all ages and especially enjoys working with people with ADHD and/or mood disorders, although he is open to tackling most challenges. He works primarily on medical treatment of psychiatric illnesses but also works with patients and families on communication and family dynamic issues that affect their disorders, and he welcomes collaboration with psychotherapists.
