Research in residency included studies on the changing and constructed nature of psychiatric diagnoses, including the likelihood of it shifting in an individual within a year. He currently treats lots of patients with depressive to bipolar, attentional and anxiety diagnoses, with medication but also a focus on exercise, therapy and sleep. His Ph.D was in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania, with models of the American population and social networks in Kenya.  He has practiced in California as an outpatient psychiatrist for 12 years, but before then spent several years abroad, in Japan, Hong Kong, England and France. Non-psychiatric interests include Lieder singing, modern board games, frisbee and once, medieval dance. He speaks some French and Japanese, but they’re too rusty for treatment purposes.

and substance use disorders as well as providing trauma-focused CBT and CBT for anxiety and
depression. Since 2011, she has worked extensively in community mental health since in both
assertive community treatment outpatient and inpatient settings, providing individual therapy
and medication management. She is especially interested in treating mood disorders and
trauma, as well as couples conflict and interpersonal issues. Other interests include utilizing
mind-body approaches to therapy for weight loss and harm reduction in substance use
Ms. Rugg has a passion for helping each client meet their individual goals and applies a holistic
approach to her client’s care. She currently offers medication management and psychiatric
services to adults in the San Francisco clinics and via video and telemedicine throughout the state of California.

She is interested in combining elements of therapy during medication management sessions and is passionate about fighting the stigma associated with mental illness.
