adolescents ages 15 and older. Dr. Trippitelli has strong experience in the treatment of all general psychiatric disorders and particular expertise in the treatment of Mood Disorders (depression and bipolar disorder), Eating Disorders, and Anxiety Disorders. Dr. Trippitelli did her psychiatry residency training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and a fellowship in Eating Disorders at The Center for Eating Disorders in Towson, MD. She received her medical degree from the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, and a BA from Rice University.

Prior to joining Community Psychiatry, Dr. Trippitelli’s primary responsibility for eighteen years was to the clinical care of patients in her private practice in Washington, DC. She was also Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University Hospital where she taught medical students and residents. She has been named as one of the top doctor’s in the Washington DC, Baltimore, and Northern Virginia area in the Washington Post’s rankings based on peer review. She has also received the Vitals’ Patients Choice Award (most recently in 2019).

Dr. Trippitelli has served on the Board of Directors of The Washington Psychiatric Society and as a member of multiple committees with the American Psychiatric Association. She has published in the American Journal of Psychiatry on the topic of ethical and social issues relating to potential genetic testing for bipolar disorder. Dr. Trippitelli recently relocated to the San Diego, CA area to join Community Psychiatry and to be closer to family in the area. In her free time, she enjoys exercise, boating, downhill skiing, most outdoor activities, and cultural events.

s in Educational Counseling from Northern Arizona University. She has worked in several Child/Adolescent Centers with an emphasis on treating school aged clients dealing with anxiety, ADHD, depression, learning disabilities, and developmental disorders. She has worked collaboratively with child psychiatrists, developmental pediatricians, child psychologists, and therapists. She just finished two years at the University of San Diego providing medication management, counseling, and life skills to college students through the University’s Counseling Center. Prior to becoming a Nurse Practitioner she worked for many years as an RN in both Pediatrics and as a School Nurse providing care to grades K-12.
Kathleen’s passion is helping children, teens, young adults and their families with mental health concerns
