Graphic that describes how TMS works

How Does TMS Work?

TMS stimulates underactive nerve cells in brain regions known to regulate mood, helping to reset brain chemistry. Treatment is relatively painless and does not have any of the side effects common with medication.

We use a TMS device that generates a strong pulsed magnetic field, similar to that of a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine.

Our TMS deep stimulation treatment sessions are precise, short and effective.

16.6 million Americans are diagnosed with Depression every year.

Up to 40% of patients do not receive adequate relief from medication and therapy alone.

Since its FDA-approval in 2008, TMS has been well-regarded by the medical community as a safe and effective treatment option for depression. The typical treatment course consists of roughly 20-minute sessions, 5 days a week over a 6-week period. TMS is covered by most insurance companies for major depression.

2.2 million American adults are diagnosed with OCD every year.

For almost half of OCD patients, psychotherapy and medications provide little to no relief. TMS offers new hope.

In August 2018, the FDA approved TMS for patients with OCD. This in-office procedure is safe, effective and non-invasive. The typical treatment course consists of 30 sessions over a 6-week period. Each session takes about an hour.

TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION

TMS is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). TMS is changing the landscape of psychiatry by using innovative technology. The TMS device uses a magnetic field to rebalance brain activity. Treatment is safe, effective, and well-tolerated. TMS therapy takes place in our comfortable offices, does not require anesthesia and patients may resume normal activities immediately.

“TMS has been life-changing for me! I sleep better, feel better and enjoy life again. I highly recommend TMS for anyone suffering from depression, especially those for whom traditional treatments, such as medications, have failed or produce unwanted side effects.”

In FDA trials, over 10,000 active TMS treatments were performed by institutions such as the Mayo Clinic, Columbia University, and Stanford University.

In clinical trials, one in two patients treated with TMS experienced significant improvement. Throughout the TMS Therapy trials, one in three patients experienced complete relief from their depression at the end of six weeks of treatment.

Is TMS Right For You?
